The Sports Neuropsychology Annual Concussion Symposium was created by The Sports Neuropsychology Society (SNS). They are a newly formed, professional member organization comprised of neuropsychologists that are actively involved in concussion management efforts at the amateur and professional levels. The symposium provides an annual update on the science and practice of sports concussion with the goal of promoting evidence-based management.
Problem
The Sports Neuropsychology Concussion Symposium was inaugurated in 2013. Since the symposium was a new event created by a new organization they were in need of a team of designers to lead them in the design and production process. They needed a full service studio with experience in large format graphics for event signage, multi page booklet layout, print production as well as communication, the creative mind and ability to incorporate the symposium theme through all of their marketing materials as well as art direction to work with sponsors in the design of advertisements for the event booklet.
Solution
The first task we chose to tackle was the design of the symposium theme. Since there were so many pieces to the puzzle, it was important to have a concrete design look and style that we could incorporate to all materials. The first item we designed in order to achieve this was the symposium booklet. The booklet was the appropriate choice because it was the centerpiece of the event. It is what the majority of the focus would be on since it contained all of the important information such as agenda, presentation descriptions, sponsor ads, etc. We wanted the imagery to speak to the event and be straight forward but not so much that it would be boring. We also wanted to be precise in the color scheme chosen especially for such a delicate topic as sports concussions.
We felt that the final design achieved the goals we were trying to convey as well as showed depth and pleasing visual flow. The client agreed and the theme was applied to event signage, email blasts, power point entrance graphics, and marketing materials for the event. In addition to our design services we also interviewed and hired printers to work on the event collateral, we worked with them to adhere to a tight deadline and coordinated shipping to the event venue, we worked with the design teams of various sponsors to finalize ads that were printed in our symposium booklet and submit them by our designated deadline. We are proud to say that the design and implementation of the event brand was a success and the client has recognized our work by hiring us for their future events.
